Introduction
Iran is the land of the Peacock Throne. Its palaces have treasure houses filled with riches. It is a country of mountains striped with white snow, dense forests where bears and lynxes roam, beautiful gardens where sparrows peck and flocks of pigeons wheel in flight, where sun smiles down throughout the year… Above all, Iran has stories - of fairies and demons, of a monstrous metal eagle called the okab, of a heroic chick pea that leaps alive from the stew he has been simmering in, performing all manner of murderous wonders, of romantic silly cockroaches and foolish weavers, of the strange and familiar.
In Pea Boy, Elizabeth Laird retells some of the best Iranian stories she has translated, bringing an exciting insight into a people with an ancient and rich culture.
After the storytelling, children will be engaged in an art workshop and take part in a song and dance session.
