A free event celebrating the spirit of the Iranian celebration of Shab-e Yalda as part of the Nour Festival of contemporary Middle Eastern and North African arts.

Introduction

Shab-e Yalda is an ancient Iranian celebration of the winter solstice. A festival of ancient origin, Yalda has woven around it a night that embodies the highly textured heritage of this historic land and is still enjoyed in Iranian homes worldwide.

Yalda is traditionally celebrated on the night of winter solstice. This year on the 22nd of December 2011. However, as part of the Nour Festival, the spirit of Yalda will be marked on November 30th this year. Visitors will delight in fine delicacies complimented by music and the prophetic poetry of Hafez as we journey through Yalda.

Santur Maestro Peyman Heydarian will be playing Iranian classical music.

20:00 – 20:45

Alamute will be playing contemporary music composed by Roya Arab who will also be on piano and provide vocals, accompanied by Tansay Omar on Drums, Ashkan Koosha on Bass Guitar, Hamid Navim on Santour and Masoud Sharifian on Sitar, with rap provided by Reveal and sin.laam.

The event is free of charge. Due to limited capacity early arrival is recommended. Doors open at 6.30pm.
