Introduction

See Persepolis as it was 2500 years ago. Starting with the work of the German scholar Friedrich Krefter, who spend decades creating a model for a reconstructed Persepolis, film maker Farzin Rezaian and his team have produced Persepolis Recreated, a documentary that presents a virtual reconstruction of parts of the Persepolis palace complex. The film that includes commentaries by many of the leading authorities on Achaemenid architecture and history, brings to life and reveals the splendour of the Persepolitan palace complex before its destruction by Alexander.

The 3-dimensional presentation with overlay to show the original plan is excellent Prof. Richard Frye, Harvard University.

This is the first successful attempt to reveal the magnificence of Persepolitan palaces as they were 2500 years ago. It is timely and excellent Prof. A Shapur Shahbazi, Eastern Oregon University.

Persepolis is no longer in grey; recreated in colour as it was in its splendour Prof. Remi Boucharlat, CNRS, France.

Film screenings / Lecture

The programme on 16 September will commence with a lecture by Dr. John Curtis, curator of Forgotten Empire: The World of Ancient Persia and Keeper of the Ancient Near East Department at the British Museum, who will introduce the Persepolis palace complex, its function and role in the Achaemenid Empire. The lecture will provide a context for and be followed with the screening of Persepolis Recreated. The event will conclude with a discussion about the film. The programme on 1 December is limited to the screening of the film.
