Introduction
Rakhshan Bani- Etemad, one of Iran's best known and most prolific female filmmakers, will be coming to London in April to lead a free 6-day filmmaking masterclass with 12 aspiring filmmakers on the subject of London. The 12 aspiring filmmakers will be chosen from the applications received. Applicants should demonstrate an awareness of filmmaking and specifically aspects of Bani-Etemad's work. The masterclass is one of a series of free Masterclasses with renowned filmmakers organised by InSight Education. The films produced as part of this masterclass will be screened at the BFI on Thursday 17 April 2008 at 2pm.
The masterclass is part of a season of events celebrating Bani-Etemad's work that includes a season of her films at the BFI Southbank and a conference at the School of Oriental and African Studies where she will receive an Honorary Degree for her contribution to World Cinema and her examination of Iranian culture and society.
