Introduction
Ustad Mohammad Reza Lotfi (tar, setar, chant),
Mohammad Ghavihelm (tombak, daf).
Jalal al-Din Rumi's mystic poems have inspired musicians and artists of all genres throughout the world, arching over all culture, religion and language barriers reaching out and unifying millions of people of all ages.
Grand Maestro Ustad Mohammad Reza Lotfi is one of Iran's most authoritative and highly esteemed soloists whose works and teachings have influenced an almost entire younger generation of Iranian musicians. Generally regarded as a living legend, Ustad Lotfi is known as one of the most prolific living improvisers in classical Persian music to date. In a music tradition based on oral teachings Ustad Lotfi is considered to be a major link in the long chain of master musicians joining the past to the future.
Accompanying Ustad Lotfi on tombak (goblet drum) and daf frame drum is the equally virtuoso percussionist. Mohammad Ghavihelm who lives and works in Paris has accompanied many of the grand maestros of classical Persian music as well as performing with other renowned percussionists such as Zakir Hussain. Ghavihelm has been collaborating with Ustad Lotfi over the past 20 years.
