Vida Edalat and the Saba Ensemble perform with complex yet subtle traditional instruments such as the santoor, daf and tombak. Discover too the translator of the Rubaiyat, Edward Fitzgerald, who made the poem his own and created one of the masterpieces of English verse. The evening, hosted by broadcaster Libby Purves, will feature readings in Persian by poet Lobat Vala and Narguess Farzad (SOAS) to live Persian classical music performed by Vida Edalat and the Saba Ensemble; an illustrated recitation of Fitzgerald’s Rubaiyat by actors Emily Bruni and Michael Maloney, and introductions to Omar Khayyam by François de Blois (SOAS) and to Edward Fitzgerald by Tony Briggs, the editor of The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam (Phoenix, 2009).Bar open from 17.30 TicketsPrice: £7.50 / £5 concessions.
