Introduction

On Tuesday 16 February 2010 at 1pm, The British Library, in conjunction with the Iran Heritage Foundation, will host a free lunchtime recital of Persian classical music by Vida Edalat and the Saba Ensemble with readings from Omar Khayyam by Lobat Vala and Narguess Farzad (School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London). This event is a programme organized in conjunction with the exhibition The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam to celebrate the 150 anniversary of Edward FitzGerald’s publication of The Rubaiyat where a wide selection of richly illustrated editions of the poem, together with fascinating background information on its long history is exhibited. Admission to the exhibition is also free.
