Introduction
A concert presenting works by two Iranian female music groups who despite the challenges of being women vocalists in modern-day Iran, where public performances by women are partly banned, are working to safeguard Persian traditional music.
Pari Maleki, has been performing and teaching music since 1986 and currently leads Khonya Musical Ensemble and has been touring Europe since 1988.
Mahsa Vahdat is professor of the maqam traditions that have forged classical Persian music. She first came to international prominence in 2004 with her participation in the compilation 'Lullabies from the Axis of Evil'. In April 2008 she gave a concert at the prestigious 'Theatre de la Ville' in Paris.
