A day celebrating Persian poetry, focusing on the themes of love and devotion. The programme includes lectures from Prof. Ahmad Karimi-Hakkak (SOAS), Prof. Alan Williams (University of Manchester) and Narguess Farzad (SOAS), as well as poetry readings in Persian, with English translations.

Biographies
Ahmad Karimi-Hakkak is Professor of Persian Language, Literature and Cultures at the University of Maryland and Founding Director of the University’s Roshan Center for Persian Studies. He is currently a Leverhulme Visiting Professor at the Department of Near and Middle East Studies at SOAS, London.
Alan Williams is Professor of Iranian Studies and Comparative Religion at the University of Manchester. He is currently British Academy Wolfson Research Professor working on a new translation of all six books of Rumi’s Masnavi. His book Spiritual Verses (Penguin Classics, 2006) is his translation of the first book of the Masnavi.
Narguess Farzad is a Senior Fellow at SOAS and teaches Persian as a foreign language, translation studies, poetry of the Persian-speaking world, and Persian poetry of Sacred Defence.
Alan Williams is Professor of Iranian Studies and Comparative Religion at the University of Manchester.
